Sharks Locker Room: Quinn Gives Hertl Injury Update, Praises Peterson & Labanc
Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

For better or worse, the San Jose Sharks keep racking up points.

The Sharks continued their four-game points streak with a 4-3 OT loss to the Colorado Avalanche, highlighted by two Kevin Labanc goals, a 38-save Kaapo Kahkonen performance, and contributions by young guns like Jacob Peterson and Danil Gushchin.

Labanc spoke after the game about Noah Gregor’s assertive work on his game-tying goal, Kahkonen praised Gushchin’s shot, Peterson talks about his five-points-in-six hot streak, and Quinn is candid about Tomas Hertl’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

He also talks about Hertl’s injury.

Kevin Labanc, on Noah Gregor’s work on his game-tying goal:

It was a great play by Gregs. He was in the corner, spun off the guy, took him around the net, tried to jam it. I was in front of the net, the puck bounced out to me. I turned around, shot it. It was a great play by him and a lot of credit for all the work that he did.

Labanc, on Danil Gushchin:

He’s a shifty player. Makes good skill plays and got a great shot too. He competes hard and plays the right way too. It’s great to watch him. I’m looking forward to the last little bit of season and [hope] he stays the summer as well.

Kaapo Kahkonen, on what he’s seen from Gushchin:

Yeah, great shot. That’s my first thought in practices. He’s got a good shot and scored that nice goal in Arizona. Overall, I think smart hockey player and it’s great to see him doing well.

Jacob Peterson, on how good he’s feeling about his game right now:

Feeling good. I [get] to play a lot and feels good when I’m playing. More comfortable with everything, with how we play here, and stuff like that.

David Quinn, on Tomas Hertl’s unsportsmanlike penalty:

I didn’t like it. He was frustrated though. A guy who usually controls his emotions didn’t control his emotions.

It happened to me once this year. We’re all humans and we get frustrated. But he knows he’s gonna have to manage his emotions.

Quinn, on Labanc’s recent play:

He’s definitely made strides and going in the direction we want him to go in. It’s good to see him get rewarded on the statsheet.

Quinn, on Peterson’s recent play:

I love his poise and his smarts. He makes good plays with the puck. He’s got offensive anticipation when he gets it. He’s just a smart player.
