Denver Broncos Could Make Waves by Adding 45-TD Quarterback

Neither of the Broncos’ quarterback options currently on the roster inspires much confidence, and given that the free-agent quarterback market has all but dried up, the organization could look to the draft to fill its glaring need.

Could the Denver Broncos Target Bo Nix?

In Pro Football Focus’ latest mock draft projection, the Broncos wind up tabbing University of Oregon quarterback Bo Nix with the No. 12 overall pick.

“Denver’s quarterback room consists of Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci,” PFF’s Max Chadwick points out. “Making it a massive need heading into the draft. The marriage of Sean Payton and Russell Wilson didn’t work out, partly because Wilson relied so much on playing outside of structure. Bo Nix is nearly the complete opposite as a quarterback who perfectly ran Oregon’s offense the way it was designed.”

Even given the Broncos’ significant hole at quarterback, taking Nix in the first-round, let alone with a top-15 selection would be a pick bound to turn some heads in the draft’s aftermath.

Nix is one of the more fascinating prospects in a loaded quarterback class, ahead of this year’s draft.

While Nix lacks the pedigree of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or even J.J. McCarthy at the top of this year’s class of quarterbacks, he proved that he can be the definition of a system-quarterback, at a very high level.

Across five collegiate seasons, including three at the University of Auburn prior to transferring to Oregon in 2022, Nix completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 15,352 yards with 113 touchdowns to 26. interceptions.

“Rare five-year starting quarterback whose play has matured in front of our eyes,” NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes of Nix, comparing him to Cowboys legend Tony Romo. “Nix displays the accuracy, arm talent and athleticism consistent with today’s brand of pro quarterback. He can be punctual in getting the ball out at the top of his drop or he can work through progressions and beat defenses with second-reaction plays.

“He throws with good velocity and puts the ball on the money when throwing on the move. Nix has shown great improvement with his pocket poise. He’s capable of moving the sticks as a scrambler or as part of the running game.”

If the Broncos don’t manage to trade up, and don’t have a position-player ranked higher on their board than Nix, he could be an option for Denver as early as Round 1.
